In order to solve problems, there needs to be the right mix of distance and nearness, of equipment and the ability to make new equipment. The right amount of structure, and the flexibility to adjust that structure.

As an example, creativity can be balanced with repetitive labour to create the device shown on the left: an automated means of growing food from a small plot of land.
